アヤメ科(Iridaceae)は約2000種で構成され、キジカクシ目(Asparagales)最大の科ですが、旧来の形態による分類体系での属は単系ではなかった例が多くある(Reeves et al.,2000)ことが明らかとなっています。Kamra wt al.(2023)によれば、7つの亜科に整理する提案が出されているようです。
