ミソハギ科(Lythraceae)は、熱帯域を中心に広く分布する31属約600種からなる中規模の科で,(Graham et al.,2005)、アカバナ科(Onagraceae)の姉妹群として識別されています(Yan et al.,2019)。サルスベリ(Lagerstroemia indica)は日本の夏に欠かすことのできない風物となっていますし、ザクロ(Punica granatum)もよく庭木としてみかけます。
