センダン科(Meliaceae)は、マホガニー(Swietenia属)に代表される良材や有用な生理活性物質を生成する種が多いグループで、2亜科約48属700種で構成されます(Heads,2019)。わが国ではセンダン(Melia azedarach)とチャンチン(Melia azedarach)が自生しています。
