ウツボカズラ科(Nepenthaceae)は、ウツボカズラ属(Nepenthes)のみ1属約120種からなる科で葉が変形したトラップ型の捕獲機を持つ食虫植物です。Biswal et al.(2018)による分岐年代推定によれば、食虫植物のグループは白亜紀後期に成立し、古第三紀始新世にモウセンゴケ科からウツボカズラのグループが分岐し、古第三紀鮮新世にウツボカズラ科として成立し、さらにウツボカズラ科は新第三紀になってボルネオ島を中心として種類を増やしたと考えられています。
