ハマウツボ科(Orobanchaceae)は、葉緑素を待たない完全寄生植物のグループと認識されてきたのですが、DNA解析の結果に基づいて再編成され、葉緑素を持つシオガマギク属(Pedicularis)、葉緑素を持つだけでなく完全独立栄養であることが確認されているアカヤジオウ属(Rehmannia)などが編入された結果、約100属2000種になっています(McNeal et al.,2013; Christenhusz and Byng,2016)。三浦半島では、ヤセウツボ(Orobanche minor)の分布が近年拡大しています。
