オオホザキアヤメ科(Costaceae)は、熱帯域に分布する120種ほどのグループで、13種類の葉緑体遺伝子を用いた解析の結果、科内に3つのクレード(アジアクレード、Costusクレード、南米クレード)が認められています(Li et al.,2024)。わが国での自生はありませんが、熱帯温室では時折見かけることが出来ます。
