ズイナ科(Iteaceae)は、APG-III(2009)で新設された2属約20種からなる小さな科で、アジア東部、北アメリカ東南部、またアフリカ東南部に隔離分布しています(Hermsen et al,2003)。Hermsen(2013)の総説によれば、ズイナ科の化石はヨーロッパの始新統からも見つかっていて、第三紀には北半球の全域に分布していた第三紀依存種であると考えられています。遺伝子解析からズイナ科の分岐は白亜紀であったと推定されています。
