リョウブ科(Clethraceae)は、リョウブ属(Clethra)、プルディアエア属(Purdiaea)の2属約85種で構成されるグループです(Fioret al.,2003)。わが国に自生するのはリョウブ(Clethra barbinervis)1種で、国立公害研究所(現環境研)が作成供給した環境標準物質(NIES CRMs)の第一号には、リョウブの葉が利用されました。
