タヌキモ科(Lentibulariaceae)は、約316種からなるコンパクトな科で(Christenhusz and Byng,2016)、すべて食虫植物です。これまでには、5属を識別する分類もありましたが、Utricularia亜属、Bivalvaria亜属、Polypompholyx亜属を、タヌキモ属(Utricularia)として、ムシトリスミレ属(Pinguicula)、ゲンリセア属(Genlisea)と併せて3属とするのが現在の分類です(Müller et al.,2004)。
