ミツガシワ科(Menyanthaceae)は、6属70種ほどからなる小さな科で、そのうち約55種がアサザ属(Nymphoides)に分類されています(Tippery et al.,2008; Njugunaet al.,2019)。温帯域に分布する水生植物が多いのですが、分布は遺残的で、三浦半島では今世紀になって記録がない(神奈川県植物誌,2018)ため、栽培を除けば絶滅したと思われます。
