ビワモドキ科(Dilleniaceae)は、10～14属最大約500種が記載されている科で、熱帯域に広く分布します。最新の分類体系(APG-IV,2016)では真正双子葉類(Eudicots)ビワモドキ目(Dilleniales)の単独科となっていますが、近縁の目が何であるかについては未だ検討中の様です。科内には少なくとも3つのクレードが識別されています(Horn,2009)。
